“THE EFFICIENCY OF LEGAL NORMS” – Migration and Human Rights
18-20 May 2023

Cluj-Napoca

Migration, both legal and illegal, is one of the most current problems at the global level. Armed conflicts, natural catastrophes, climate changes or, simply, poor living conditions cause more and more people to leave their native country and go on the long journey in search of better living conditions. For the host states, this infusion of people, generally young, can be a beneficial thing, but it also raises a series of the most diverse challenges.

Throughout this complex process, human rights must be fully respected.

Our conference aims to provide a platform for debate on how all these issues have to be managed and ruled by legal norms.

“THE EFFICIENCY OF LEGAL NORMS” – (Human) Rights in the Struggle for the Environment
19-21 May 2022

Cluj-Napoca

Pollution and climate change can have devastating effects on life on Earth. In addition to natural disasters such as tornadoes, forest fires, floods, which have immediate and tragic consequences, the very change in environmental conditions has long-term impact on agriculture, transport and the economy in general. The living conditions of millions of people who will have to leave their homelands in search of more favorable areas are affected. However, overpopulation of certain regions leads to more intense pollution, which again affects human health. Therefore, human rights are severely affected, directly or indirectly, by these changes at the global level. On the other hand, realizing the imminent danger, governments have begun to take legislative measures to counteract the negative impact that human activities have on the natural environment. These measures must be well balanced so as not to unduly affect citizens’ rights and freedoms. Our conference aims to provide a platform for debate on how all these trends influence the legal system and especially human rights.  Here are some examples of proposed topics on the subject: Human rights and international conventions; Environmental law; International cooperation; Constitutional rules; Environmental protection through Criminal law; Duties and responsibilities of public authorities; Legal systems and jurisprudence; Legislation for the activities in environmental protection; The role of the state in protecting the environment; Limitations on property rights; Transport regulations, Impact of consumption on the environment; The right of consumers to a healthy environment; Sustainability and resilience in health; The impact of Environmental Law on business development; The obligation of safety and conformity of the products in correlation with the regulations of environmental protection; Food security; Sustainable business development; Legislative measures to manage the energy crisis, etc. The topics of the papers can be circumscribed to the examples above, without being limited to them. Interdisciplinary approaches are also relevant and of interest in our conference.
